The “George Ciprian” Theatre is a state-funded project theatre founded in 1995 in Buzău, Romania. We contract artists (actors, directors, scenographers, designers etc.) on a project basis, without having a fixed troupe. Initially the only theatre of its kind in the country, it has inspired the creation of similar organizations.
Having established a reputation as a project and festival venue for family shows and constantly engaging with the local community, we are currently looking at offering more support to emerging artists in Romania and abroad while extending our international ties.
- Engaging the Buzău population through diverse, inclusive and high-quality cultural activities in traditional and non-traditional spaces (e.g. producing and hosting theatre shows, offering support to high school theatre in Buzău, organizing literary events and musical evenings etc.).
- Promoting the city of Buzău through our theatre productions touring at prestigious festivals in Romania and abroad and organizing our own festivals with national and international outreach.
- Supporting emerging artists in Romania, while developing a teenage and young adult audience.
- Creating strategic partnerships with cultural operators in Romania and abroad.
